FAQs

What is an any size skein?
The main purpose of my shop is to sell yarn that is the right size for you and your project. The industry standard is to sell skeins in 100g, which may be too much or not enough yarn. I’ve been priced out of projects myself because I didn’t want to buy 7 different colors to only use a bit of each. Instead, you can save money by only buying what you need and open the world to more options!

When are your shop updates?
For now, the shop will be updated on the first Friday of each month. I may add new listings sporadically though so your best way to know is to follow me on Instagram at agirlandherwool. You can always check the New Items section to see the latest listings. I also have a Shop News page where I will highlight the latest news.

Why did you start a hand dyed yarn business?
Like many of you, I have a love for yarn, crafting and color. I always wanted to have a business of my own and I’ve been fortunate to merge the two together. Read more here…

What is the BFL Sock base and how does it compare to the Sock base?
BFL stands for Blue-faced Leicester, which is a breed of sheep, just like Merino is! It’s a sturdier yarn than Merino, which makes it great for socks. My BFL Sock base is still soft but nothing beats the softness of merino wool. If you are very sensitive, you should stick with the Sock base. If you want your socks to hold up longer, than try out the BFL Sock base. Both have nylon in them to help keep your socks from wearing through.

In addition, the BFL Sock base is a high twist 2 ply yarn. The high twist further helps with the sturdiness. It also helps create some great stitch definition. The Sock base is a 4 ply yarn.
